Daybooks, 1785-1793 (bulk 1785-1786, 1788-1792).

Daybooks kept for Hammond's mercantile enterprises (Nov. 1785-Oct. 1786 and June 1788-June 1793). Volumes record expenses for marine insurance, outfitting ships, seamen's wages, rents, other business expenses, and retail sales of such items as tobacco, salt, fabric, lumber, wine, cheese, tea, staves, clothing accessories, hardware, and naval stores. Hammond also kept record of debts, money received on account, goods received from England, and profits and losses.
